Welcome to the Lajes Field's Housing Office!
Knowing that housing is of great concern to you and your family, we will make every effort to assist you with your specific housing needs. Included in this page is pertinent information concerning the base and the community in general. The Housing Office (HO) is pleased to have you join the Lajes community and we look forward to serving your housing needs. Once we receive a copy of your DD Form 1746 Application for Assignment to Housing (available at your local HO), your name will be placed on a waiting list. Your housing entitlement is based on your rank and family size. If government quarters are not available, or if you elect to reside off base, Housing Referral Services are provided to help you locate suitable off-base housing. We maintain rental listings by number of bedrooms required, price range and location. To see what housing is available off the base please go to http://www.AHRN.com. Our staff will do everything possible to make your move as smooth as possible. Military Family Housing
There are 400 Military Family Housing units located at Lajes Field. There are 90 officer units and 310 enlisted units. Bedroom requirements for Lajes Field, Family Housing are based on grade, family size, and family composition. Visit the housing office at your current location to submit an advance application for military family housing. All MFH units have heating and air conditioner.
WEIGHT
The restricted weight allowance for all Air Force civilian employees and military members assigned to/from Lajes Field Azores has been rescinded. All accompanied Air Force members’ and employees’ HHG shipments to or from Lajes Field, Azores picked up on or after 15 May 10 are authorized full JFT/JTR weight entitlement. There is no grandfather clause for this increase in HHG weight allowance.
This does not mean your should ship your full weight allowance. Housing in the Azores is smaller than homes in CONUS and commercial storage in the Azores is not available. Be aware that Housing will not fund items to be sent back to CONUS for storage, so be very careful what you select to bring. Review what items will be provided to you below, and the size of the available houses. This will help you decide what items to place in non-temporary storage for the duration of your tour in the Azores.
Be advised that only two pets are authorized in base housing; however, waivers can be granted on a case by case basis. See PETS.

You may elect to ship personal items using the Postal Service to Lajes. For reimbursement TMO will need a copy of all receipts and weights for postal shipments. TMO does not reimburse for insurance.
All accompanied personnel (both Military and Civilian) assigned to Lajes Field are entitled to full JFTR Weight Allowance. The Furnishings Management Office (FMO) will provide Temporary Loaner Furnishing for a 90 day period or until your House hold goods arrive. Please do not ship your Major Appliances. Appliances will be provided for the entire tour. Although the electricity on Lajes Field is both 110 and 220 Volts, the cycles (megahertz) are only 50 cycle (megahertz). We recommend that you don't bring any electrical items that are strictly 110/60 Cycle (megahertz). AAFES sells 110/220 50/60 Cycles electrical items or you can purchase 220 volt electrical items downtown.
All authorized personnel will be provided furniture and appliances by the US Government with the exception of stereos, microwaves, TVs, and baby furniture. Before you ship any furniture, please speak with your sponsor at Lajes for assistance in deciding what you should bring.

All Unaccompanied (Orders must reflect unaccompanied status) personnel assigned to Lajes Field have a limited JFTR of 10% and FMO will issue a full complement of furnishing (including Appliances) for the tour duration.

NOTE: Reimbursement is only authorized as long as weight entitlement has not been exceeded.
Consistent with Air Force policy, all unaccompanied AF members are authorized either an unaccompanied baggage shipment or elect 10% of full JFTR weight allowance via surface. However, AFSUP/JFTR, table a2.2 rule 2/4 and the overseas furnishings and housing availability report may authorize additional weight contingent upon the members/employees rank/grade and unaccompanied housing availability. All additional authorized weight must be identified on members/employees PCS orders.

LOAN CLOSET
The loan closet at the Airman & Family Readiness Center has a selection of kitchen dishes, cookware, utensils and certain small appliances for loan at no cost. These items are available for a period of an initial 30 days, but can be extended as necessary. Items are checked out free of charge upon presentation of PCS orders.

Please be advised that we do not have linens, TVs, vacuum cleaners, microwaves, cribs, strollers, car seats, nor other baby furniture items. You may want to consider shipping these items in your whole baggage shipment.
Also be aware that sometimes all of the coffee pots, irons, or ironing boards may be checked out. Unlike many bases, Lajes Field does not have an Airman's Attic; however, we do have a very small Thrift Store, where you can purchase items.
